Blender 5.3 will include built-in import and rendering of 3D Gaussian Splats, which previously required third-party add-ons. Import from PLY and SPZ is supported, but export is not yet available. The release is planned for November 10, with alpha running until September 30.

Google released stable versions of AndroidX Security State and Security State Provider: apps can check the status of individual Android components, the presence of specific patches (CVEs), and available updates, not just the overall security patch date. In Android 17, manufacturers will be able to report individual fixes to the system without changing the patch date.
In update KB5121003 for Windows 11, a Low Latency Profile feature appeared: when clicking an icon, the OS raises CPU frequency almost to maximum for 1–3 seconds, speeding up app launches. Oracle released Java 27 with nine JEPs. G1 is now the default garbage collector in all environments, Compact Object Headers are enabled by default, and a hybrid post-quantum key exchange for TLS 1.3 is added. JDK 27 updates will be available until March 2027.
On September 8 Nvidia introduced CUDA Rust — two open-source projects (cuda-oxide and cutile-rs) that compile Rust directly to PTX without wrappers over nvcc. cuda-oxide offers a SIMT model with compile-time race checking, while cutile-rs runs on stable Rust 1.89+ and is already used in Hugging Face's Grout and mistral.rs engines.
OPPO unveiled ColorOS 17 based on Android 17 for China, with OnePlus and Realme devices in India and globally to follow. First in line are Find X9, Find N6, OnePlus 15T and Realme GT 8 Pro starting October 8, 2026.
