AWS Reworks Bedrock AgentCore Runtime for Elastic Memory, Fast Cold Starts
On September 18, 2026, AWS introduced a new version of the Amazon Bedrock AgentCore runtime (platformVersion V2). Memory is now released as sessions end, and cold start no longer depends on image size: P75 is about 2 seconds versus 5.4–30 seconds for V1. V2 is available in five regions.
- V2 P75 cold start is about 2 seconds for images from 200 MB to 2 GB
- V1 latency grew with image size: from 5.4 to almost 30 seconds
- Memory is allocated on demand and returned after a session releases it
- V2 is enabled with platformVersion=V2; available in us-east-1, us-east-2, us-west-2, eu-west-1, ap-northeast-1
