Synology has launched ActiveProtect Manager 2.0, a free update for its DP-Series data protection appliances. It adds protection for Amazon EC2, Azure VM, Proxmox VE, Nutanix AHV and Google Workspace, cross-platform recovery and volume-level storage encryption. APM 2.1 will add AI/ML anomaly detection and malware scanning before restore.
HubSpot announced its largest platform release: a self-updating CRM, new Breeze Assistant, Marketing Studio, and Context Home based on the Growth Context concept. The company became the first CRM to integrate with ChatGPT Ads and launched a joint AI Growth Bundle with OpenAI for SMBs.
Node 26 was released on May 5, 2026, and will become LTS on October 28. It is the last release under the two-versions-per-year scheme: starting with Node 27, the project moves to one release per year, and all versions will be LTS. Major breakages: internal _stream_* modules removed, Undici 8 tightened header validation, native addons require rebuild (NODE_MODULE_VERSION 147, GCC 13.2+).
Canva released Affinity 3.3, a major update to its design suite with more than 60 new features, including a Blend Tool, a reworked RAW engine, scripting and import of InDesign and Publisher files. The suite remains completely free, with payment only for Canva AI models.
Google began the staged rollout of the September 2026 Pixel Drop for Pixel 6 and newer devices. The update adds an improved VIP contacts widget, Harry Potter audiobook packs, a two-month Audible trial and on-device scam message detection in Gboard.
Huawei released HarmonyOS 7.0.0.105 for MateBook: the 'Joint Authentication' feature allows unlocking a phone via face recognition through the laptop's webcam or via fingerprint on the PC's power button. Currently only MateBook Pro S is supported.
Microsoft will add the ability to search across multiple accounts simultaneously in Outlook for the web, with results combined into one ranked list. The feature will appear for users starting next month, and standard email actions will be available from search results.
The dev release of Wine 11.18, the Windows compatibility layer used by Proton and SteamOS, is out. It adds NTOSKRNL support for kernel drivers, fixes bugs in C headers and improves compatibility with Assassin's Creed Rogue, Super Meat Boy, KOTOR and other games.
Samsung is rolling out stable One UI 9 from September 16, starting with the Galaxy S26 series. Some new Galaxy AI features - My FanCam, custom Now Brief cards, Call Brief, and expanded Now Nudge - are available only on flagship devices even if a phone supports the update.
Xiaomi announced which devices will receive HyperOS 4 and the rollout schedule for China. The first wave is already rolling out for Xiaomi 17 Ultra and Pad 8 Pro, all compatible devices will be updated by January 2027, and a global release is expected in the coming weeks.
Google is testing a 'Dive deeper' feature in its Discover feed: instead of opening an article or video, users get an AI-generated overview of the topic with links to related material. The test starts with video, with other formats to follow. Publishers fear traffic losses and incomplete summaries.
In OpenZFS before versions 2.4.4 and 2.3.9, the zfs_fillpage() function computed read length as i_size - io_off using unsigned types. When a file was truncated during an mmap read, the difference underflowed to nearly 2⁶⁴, and dmu_read() zeroed physical memory beyond the requested page, causing random processes to crash with segfaults. Fixed in OpenZFS 2.4.4 and 2.3.9 released on August 21, 2026.
Samsung has begun the global rollout of One UI 9 with Android 17 for Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra starting September 16. The update brings Galaxy AI, My FanCam, Now Brief with generative cards and new security features; Galaxy Z Fold8 and Flip8 will follow later.
On September 20, Facebook and Instagram users reported an outage: apps failed to load, and photos and videos were unavailable. Complaints on Downdetector exceeded 17,000, peaking at 21:25 US Eastern Time. Meta's official status page did not confirm the issue.
CNCF released Kubernetes 1.37 with 67 enhancements: the Metrics API (metrics.k8s.io) became generally available, rootless kubelet moved to beta, and alpha features such as pod checkpoint/restore and workload-aware scheduling were added. The next release, 1.38, is expected in December 2026.
iOS 27 introduced iPhone Handoff, which lets users use one phone number on two iPhones. So far only T-Mobile in the US ($5 per month surcharge) and Telekom in Germany have confirmed support.
Apple added Impersonation Risk Detection to iOS 27 and iPadOS 27: it assesses user action risk based on account and device data, with analysis on-device. Apps receive only risk level—Unknown, Medium, or High. Enabled in settings, changes take up to 24 hours.

Builder.io released Agent-Native, an MIT-licensed full-stack TypeScript framework where humans and AI agents share one action layer. Actions defined once via defineAction become React hooks, LLM tools, MCP servers and HTTP endpoints.
Portainer announced 3.0 with a Kubernetes-first codebase: Docker, Swarm and Podman remain supported, but new features like policies, GitOps and observability will arrive for Kubernetes first. Portainer 2.45 LTS is the final 2.x release, and there will be no separate Community Edition 3.x.
Bun creator Jarred Sumner ported the JavaScript/TypeScript runtime from Zig to Rust in four months instead of a year, using about 50 workflows with Claude Fable 5. The rewrite cost $165K in tokens, fixed 128 old bugs and memory leaks, with Bun v1.4.0 released in August 2026.
Gzip 1.15 was released on September 20, 2026, fixing a race that could delete the wrong file when another process renamed a directory, plus a buffer overflow and data corruption when unpacking .lzh. The release includes 119 commits over 75 weeks; no CVEs were assigned.
In Ubuntu 26.10 Canonical lowered OOM priorities for desktop system processes so the kernel kills applications instead of GNOME Shell when memory runs out. systemd-oomd will also no longer be able to terminate user sessions. The release is planned for October 15, 2026, with a beta on September 24.
Homebrew 7.0 includes BrewUI, an official desktop app for macOS. It manages installed formulae and casks through a native SwiftUI interface while showing the Homebrew commands it runs, and installs via brew install --cask homebrew-app.
Tesla is preparing to launch its Grok AI assistant in Israel, Qatar, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Morocco with software update 2026.32.6. It requires an AMD Ryzen processor and a Premium Connectivity subscription or Wi-Fi; no Grok account is needed.
Microsoft released Skill Recorder, an app that records user actions and turns them into skills and automations for AI agents via Copilot. Recording, storage, and transcription via Whisper (99 languages, ~252 MB model) are local, but pressing Analyze sends data — window titles, URLs, clipboard previews, and screen images — to GitHub cloud.
Microsoft quietly updated the Windows 11 lock screen so only the weather widget shows by default. The change is noted in the KB5120998 release notes from late August and applies to existing users; other widgets can be added manually in settings.
Google added three features to Chrome: vertical tab placement (Settings > Appearance > Tab Position), PDF filling and signing, and form autofill via Google Wallet with storage of driver's license and passport data. The update is gradually rolling out on Windows and macOS.
Google is testing native PDF translation in Chrome via reading mode using Google Translate. The feature is available in Chrome Canary after enabling the 'Enable Translate PDF' flag at chrome://flags.
WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.37.8 includes a voice input feature that converts dictated speech into text and sends it to the chat. It works in personal chats, groups and channels, supports multiple languages and processes audio locally on the device.
