Windows 11 begins automatically indexing most-used folders for search

Microsoft is gradually rolling out a Windows 11 feature that automatically adds frequently used folders to the search index. The option appeared in preview update KB5120998 from August 27 and cumulative update KB5124008 from September 8, and can be managed under Privacy & Security, then Search.

• Feature shipped with KB5120998 on August 27 for Windows 11 24H2 and 25H2
• September update KB5124008 raised builds to 26200.9445 and 26100.9445
• Toggle: Automatically find additional relevant locations in search settings
• Disabling the option does not turn off Windows Search indexing overall
