Microsoft to rework Windows 11's "Restart now" button after MVP complaint

Windows 11 shows a "Restart now" button while the monthly security update is still installing, and clicking it early can force an extra reboot. Microsoft acknowledged the issue after MVP Nathan McNulty flagged it and said it is looking at changing the experience, without giving a timeline.

• Button stays active while KB5127648 shows "Installing – 2%"
• Early restart can require a second reboot and take over 30 minutes
• Since July 28, 2026, .NET, driver and firmware updates install with the monthly patch
• Microsoft has not detailed the new design or a rollout date
