Collabora makes Rust-based Kraid the default Mali GPU compiler in Mesa 27.0

Collabora said its Rust-based Kraid shader compiler becomes the default for Mali Valhall v9 and newer GPUs in Mesa 27.0, with Mesa 26.3 the last release keeping the old compiler. The Rust Tyr kernel driver for Mali-G610 reached a firmware-boot milestone in Linux 7.3.

• Kraid cuts OpenGL shader instruction count by 18.47%, from 714,433 to 582,468
• Vulkan register spills drop 84.32% and instruction count 19.66%
• Vulkan pipelines compile about 7x faster using 35% less memory
• Tyr driver in Linux 7.3 now boots the Mali-G610 GPU microcontroller
