EffectCraft is an open-source After Effects clone built mostly by AI

Developer Brandon Thomas released EffectCraft, a free open-source alternative to Adobe After Effects, as part of a 13-app ArtCraft suite. Built in Rust with Claude Opus 5.5 in about 10 days, it covers roughly 91% of After Effects 2026 features and mirrors AE's shortcuts and graph editor.

• First commit landed on October 1; ten days later the project had ~330,000 lines of Rust
• About 91% of AE 2026 features exist in some form, but only ~45% are ready for paid work
• 306 built-in effects copy AE names and defaults, though renders haven't been compared yet
• Graph editor and F9 Easy Ease matched AE values at 168 points in time
