CBL-514 injection makes fat cells self-destruct
The experimental drug CBL-514 triggers apoptosis in fat cells, reducing both subcutaneous and visceral fat. In phase 2, 69.6% of participants lost at least 150 mL of subcutaneous fat; in animals, combining it with tirzepatide curbed weight regain after treatment stopped.
- 69.6% of participants lost at least 150 mL of subcutaneous fat vs 0% on placebo
- Doses up to 600 mg were injected into the lower abdomen every three weeks for up to 12 weeks
- In rats, CBL-514 plus tirzepatide led to less weight regain after discontinuation
- Mean baseline visceral fat volume: 563.85 mL vs 659.81 mL for placebo
