South 8 starts making lithium-ion cells for defense that work at −60°C

South 8 Technologies has begun operating a semi-automated cell manufacturing line in San Diego, California, producing cylindrical ARCTIC AE35 18650 cells. The LiGas liquefied gas electrolyte enables operation from −60°C to 60°C, with the line targeting 5 MWh of annual output by 2027 for customers including 3ME Technology and Galvion.
