KRICT boosts lithium-ion power delivery up to 2.85x with cathode additive
Researchers at South Korea's KRICT added a small amount of graphitic carbon nitride to the cathode of a lithium-ion battery. Tests showed a 166% capacity increase during high-rate discharge and up to 2.85x higher power density. The tech is still early-stage and could benefit EVs, drones, robots and gaming laptops.
- Graphitic carbon nitride in the cathode raised high-rate discharge capacity by 166%
- Power density increased by up to 2.85 times
- The approach allows thicker cathodes without losing energy delivery
- Next step is scaling up; tests remain at lab stage
