Last Energy's 5 MW pilot microreactor clears US safety review

Last Energy has secured the Documented Safety Analysis for its 5 MW PWR-5 pilot microreactor at Texas A&M University's RELLIS campus. It is the penultimate step in the DOE review before startup authorization for reactor operations.

• The 5 MW PWR-5 pilot will be built at the RELLIS campus in Bryan, Texas
• The reactor uses proven PWR technology sealed in a 1,000-ton steel containment vault
• Each nuclear island fits in 114 sq ft, about one parking space
• Next comes a readiness review and DOE startup authorization
