BWXT microreactors to power Canada's first 50 MW transportable nuclear plant
BWX Technologies confirmed its BANR microreactor was selected for a pilot installation in Belledune, New Brunswick, led by Prodigy Clean Energy with the Pabineau and Eel River Bar First Nations. The 50 MW plant uses two 22 MW units and could supply the grid by the early 2030s.
- Plant capacity is up to 50 MW from two 22 MW BANR units
- Each unit produces 75 MW of thermal energy using TRISO fuel
- On-site installation and fuel commissioning take about 18 months
- New Brunswick signed a Letter of Intent to buy power from the plant
