Angola Cables upgrades Monet and Sacs subsea cables with Ciena gear

Angola Cables will upgrade the Monet and Sacs subsea cables linking Africa with Brazil and the US using Ciena equipment, including WaveLogic 6 Extreme optical technology. No new cable will be laid; the upgrade boosts capacity on existing fibre. The contract value and completion date were not disclosed.

• Monet, a 10,556km system, will support 800Gbit/s client connections
• Sacs spans 6,165km and is wholly owned by Angola Cables
• Combined latency from Angola to the US and back is about 130ms
• Monet is co-owned by Angola Cables, Google, Algar Telecom and Antel
