US Navy targets three nuclear submarines a year from 2031

The US Navy unveiled a four-pillar strategy to accelerate nuclear submarine construction, aiming to deliver two Virginia-class and one Columbia-class boat annually from 2031. Vice Adm. Robert Gaucher, the Pentagon's first submarine portfolio manager, outlined the plan.

• Target is two Virginia-class and one Columbia-class submarine per year by 2031
• Lead Columbia-class sub to be delivered in 2028 and enter service in 2031
• 12 Columbia-class and 70 Virginia-class submarines are planned in total
• Boats are built by General Dynamics Electric Boat and Newport News Shipbuilding
