US DOE launches BattMan accelerator for next-gen batteries
The US Department of Energy has launched BattMan, a battery manufacturing accelerator led by PNNL. It aims to cut manufacturing costs and speed novel battery tech from lab to production, as US battery demand is projected to grow from 179 GWh in 2025 to 707 GWh by 2035.
- BattMan unites PNNL, Argonne, Oak Ridge and several universities
- US battery demand is projected to rise from 179 to 707 GWh by 2035
- Goals include lower manufacturing costs and faster lab-to-market transition
- PNNL will build physics-based ML models to predict cell degradation
