AWS launches Amazon ECS Gateway for shared managed ingress
On October 20, 2026, AWS introduced Amazon ECS Gateway, an account-level resource that owns ingress for ECS services through shared ALBs. Up to 25 services share one load balancer, each getting an HTTPS hostname like <id>.ecs.<region>.on.aws; the gateway itself is free, but you pay for ALBs, public IPv4, logs and data transfer.
- Up to 25 services share one ALB via host-based routing
- HTTPS on port 443 and awsvpc network mode only, same account
- update-gateway replaces the entire configuration — the biggest trap
- Default maxAlbCount is 10, allowing up to 250 services per gateway
