Air pollution from Utah's Stratos data center could reach Illinois, report says
An EmPower Analytics Group analysis commissioned by NRDC estimates that a gas-powered Stratos data center in Utah, at its full 9 GW buildout, would emit up to 3,140 tons of PM2.5 a year, causing up to 45 premature deaths and $690 million in annual health damages. The pollution would spread to Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and Illinois.
- Stratos at full 9 GW would use more than double Utah's annual electricity
- Up to 3,140 tons of PM2.5 emitted per year on all-gas power
- Up to 45 premature deaths and $690M in health damages annually
- First 3 GW phase alone: up to 15 deaths and $230M in damages a year
