Google Wallet tests skipping verification for contactless payments
A new "Tap to pay" entry has appeared in Google Wallet 26.42's Verification settings, hinting at an option to skip identity checks for regular contactless payments, which currently only applies to transit. Selecting the entry crashes the app, so any security safeguards remain unknown.
- The option was found in Google Wallet version 26.42.1003171897
- Verification currently stays valid for a few minutes after unlocking
- Verification can already be disabled for supported transit systems
- Tapping the new entry crashes the app for now
