Scientists reverse 60 years of cellular aging, turning 80-year-old cells into 20-year-olds
Researchers at the University Hospital of Bonn converted blood cell precursors from an 80-year-old directly into neural stem cells. Epigenetic clocks reset by more than 60 years within 50 days, and the gradual rejuvenation was tracked for over 100 days.
- Epigenetic age of the cells dropped from 80 to under 20 years in 50 days
- Conversion was direct, skipping the pluripotent stem cell stage
- Rejuvenation unfolded over more than 100 days, enabling study of its drivers
- The study appeared in Aging Cell and relates to Alzheimer's risk research
