Protonic ceramic electrolyzer doubles hydrogen output
Researchers at the University of Groningen showed that carefully coordinating materials in a protonic ceramic electrolyzer cell (PCEC) doubles hydrogen production at the same electricity consumption. The results were published in Energy and Environmental Science on Oct. 14, 2026.
- PCEC produces hydrogen from water at temperatures matching industrial processes
- Material coordination doubled hydrogen output without extra electricity
- Findings published in Energy and Environmental Science on Oct. 14, 2026
