GM completes closed-loop battery recycling pilot with 100% recycled cathode metals
GM finished a closed-loop recycling pilot: 80 end-of-life EV battery packs yielded more than 12 metric tons of cathode active material made with 100% recycled nickel, cobalt and manganese. Ultium Cells built new cells from it, and the first Cadillac LYRIQ, VISTIQ, ESCALADE IQ, Chevrolet Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV units have rolled off the line.
- 80 battery packs recycled into over 12 metric tons of cathode material
- Recovery rates reach 95% for nickel, cobalt and manganese, up to 80% for lithium
- New cells assembled at Factory ZERO and Spring Hill
- About 10,000 GM second-life batteries to be deployed with Redwood Materials
