Retatrutide cuts body weight by up to 15.3% in type 2 diabetes trial
In a phase 3 trial, the triple agonist retatrutide, which targets GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon receptors, reduced body weight by 11.5–15.3% over 40 weeks depending on dose and lowered HbA1c by 1.69–1.94 percentage points in people with type 2 diabetes. The study enrolled 537 participants across the US, Mexico and India.
- Doses of 4, 9 and 12 mg produced weight loss of 11.5%, 13.9% and 15.3% versus 2.6% on placebo
- HbA1c fell by 1.69–1.94 points versus 0.81 points on placebo
- The drug activates three receptors: GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon
- Between 2% and 5% of participants discontinued due to adverse events
