Dissectible Anatomy Lets Users Cut & Tear Virtual Bodies in Real Time
Purdue University researchers Tim McGraw and Jack Myers presented Dissectible Anatomy: a system that turns cryosections (including Visible Human Project data) into deformable 3D models that can be cut, torn, and separated in real time. The project received the Audience Choice Award at SIGGRAPH 2026.
- Method combines position-based dynamics, signed distance fields, and volumetric splats on compute shaders
- System is engine- and CUDA-independent, runs on various GPUs and OSes
- Demo lasted 6 minutes and received Real-Time Live! Audience Choice Award
- Technology applicable not only in education but also in games and VFX
