DeepMind AI agent finds novel antimicrobial peptide candidate
Google DeepMind published an October 15, 2026 walkthrough in which biologists used its agentic Antigravity platform to identify a novel antimicrobial peptide candidate in Streptococcus pseudopneumoniae — bacteriocin A0A0U0D591 of the Lactococcin 972 family, 97 amino acids long. The lead is undergoing wet-lab validation, and DeepMind also introduced an embedded Biomolecular Structure Viewer.
- Candidate A0A0U0D591 is a 97-amino-acid Lactococcin 972 family peptide
- Structural analysis matched its fold to a known bacteriocin
- Flanking genes include an ABC transporter operon and XRE regulator
- Google is giving 10,000 scientists free access to Gemini 4 Argon in Antigravity
