MIT startup LNK Energies converts diesel trucks to hydrogen haulers
MIT startup LNK Energies has developed a system that converts existing Class 8 diesel trucks to run on hydrogen, using a mini-fridge-sized onboard reactor that releases hydrogen from a liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC). The company claims a 13% lower total cost of ownership than diesel and fuel below $6.50 per gallon after just 50–100 trucks.
- LOHC reactor shrunk from shipping-container size to a mini fridge
- Class 8 truck ownership claimed 13% cheaper than diesel
- Fuel priced below $6.50 per gallon after 50–100 trucks
- Lab demo reactor powers a lawnmower engine; truck install in 18 months
