Microsoft Publisher is gone from Microsoft 365 — verification, not conversion, is the hard part

On October 1, 2026, Microsoft removed Publisher from Microsoft 365, with perpetual-version support ending October 13. Batch-converting .pub files to PDF is easy, but scripts silently report success when no PDF is produced or its text is lost, so a verification pass is required.

• Publisher was removed from Microsoft 365 on October 1, 2026; perpetual support ends October 13
• Exit code 0 does not guarantee a PDF: a truncated .pub converts with no error and no output
• A renamed text file converts but loses all original layout
• The open-source PubAudit CLI sorts files into OK, REVIEW and FAILED by pages and extractable text
