Sierra and Meta propose Personal Agent Protocol standard for AI agents

Sierra and Meta announced the Personal Agent Protocol on October 6, 2026, an open standard for how a shopper's AI agent interacts with a business. Version 0.1 of the spec is due later in October, and payments are not part of the first release. Partners include Shopify, Stripe, Walmart, Genesys and Rocket.

• Sessions are built on OAuth and carry across channels
• Three connection routes: web pages, MCP/OpenAPI APIs, the company's own agent
• Payments, finer permissions and notifications are deferred to future versions
