Microsoft disables Ask Copilot on the Windows 11 taskbar

Microsoft has temporarily switched off Ask Copilot, the optional Copilot search box on the Windows 11 taskbar, while it previews an updated Copilot app for Windows Insiders. No return date has been given, and Notebooks, Connectors and Vision are also unavailable in the app for now.

• Ask Copilot had been in testing since October 2025 and was expected around mid-2026
• The feature was opt-in and not enabled by default
• Notebooks, Connectors and Vision are also unavailable in the Copilot app for now
• The shutdown came on August 14, 2026, before the new Copilot was unveiled on September 25
