Ubuntu 26.10 brings Rust coreutils, OpenSSL 4.0 and slimmer GRUB
Ubuntu 26.10 "Stonking Stingray" arrives October 15 with fully Rust-based coreutils, OpenSSL 4.0 with Encrypted Client Hello, and a trimmed signed GRUB for Secure Boot. It also swaps dbus-daemon for dbus-broker, adds local speech-to-text Myna and ships Linux kernel 7.3.
- Signed GRUB drops Btrfs, XFS, ZFS, HFS+ drivers and JPEG/PNG loading
- All coreutils go Rust-based, including cp, mv and rm
- OpenSSL 4.0 adds Encrypted Client Hello, removes ENGINE and SSLv3
- Linux kernel 7.3 and offline speech-to-text Myna included
