Google replaces Gemini Gems with Skills — reusable prompts in any chat

Google has retired Gemini Gems in favor of Skills, configurable capabilities that can be invoked from any chat and chained together. Skills can be created via a chat prompt or manually in Settings → Skills, with slash commands and migration of old Gems.

• Gems launched in mid-2024 as isolated chat silos
• Skills can be called from any chat and stacked into automation chains
• Create a skill by asking Gemini or manually in Settings → Skills
• Existing Gems are carried over into the Skills section
