IEA: electrification now beats fossil fuels on cost, but upfront costs and politics slow it

IEA head Fatih Birol told the UN that for the first time the energy trilemma of cost, security and cleanliness is aligning. The agency's report shows $100 of electricity takes an EV 2,310 miles versus 862 on gasoline, and a heat pump delivers 42 days of heating versus 30 for a gas boiler. Electricity's share of final energy rose from 16.7% in 2000 to 23.4% in 2025, with a proposed 35% target for 2035.
