Germany pledges to phase out fossil fuels by 2045

On September 23, 2026, Germany published a roadmap for the gradual phase-out of fossil fuels by 2045. The plan targets 80% renewable electricity, 215 GW of added solar and 12 GW of onshore wind by 2030, a coal exit moved up to 2035, and a 30% cut in methane emissions by 2030.
