Tin-based perovskite solar cells slow heat loss 1,000-fold, could beat 33% limit
Researchers at the University of Groningen found that tin-based perovskite solar cells slow hot-electron cooling by a factor of 1,000, from picoseconds to nanoseconds. Simulations confirmed a double-action mechanism. In theory, this could enable solar cells exceeding the 33% efficiency limit.
- Hot-electron cooling slowed 1,000-fold, to nanoseconds
- Double-action mechanism confirmed by digital simulations
- Tin-based perovskites are non-toxic with low electron mass
- Could theoretically exceed the 33% efficiency limit
