Microsoft enables Windows settings backup by default for orgs

Microsoft announced that Windows settings backup and restore is now enabled by default on Microsoft Entra-joined enterprise devices upgraded to Windows 11 26H2. The default applies only outside DMA-regulated regions, and restore still requires explicit admin configuration.

• Settings backup is on by default after Windows 11 26H2 released on September 29
• Default applies only to Entra-joined devices outside DMA-regulated regions
• Restore behavior remains admin-controlled and is not enabled by default
• Admins can disable the policy via Intune or Group Policy
