CMS to deploy AI and machine learning to fight Medicare fraud

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services plans to use AI and machine learning to cut improper payments driven by documentation errors. Deputy Administrator Kimberly Brandt said this could reduce Medicare's improper payment rate by as much as two percentage points. The agency's Fraud Defense Operations Center has already stopped nearly $2.5 billion in potentially fraudulent payments and taken action against just under 800 providers.
