Germany 3D-prints gas turbine injector that burns hydrogen and kerosene
Researchers at the University of Stuttgart have built a 3D-printed injection system that lets compact gas turbines cleanly burn hydrogen, kerosene, methanol, natural gas and e-fuels. The lab-tested nozzle now heads toward a prototype and real-world trials.
- Injector handles hydrogen, kerosene, methanol and natural gas
- Built with laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) 3D printing
- Works despite rough surfaces typical of metal printing
- Could retrofit existing gas turbines for new fuels
