DLSS 5 Runs on Intel Arc via AI-Written Code
A pseudonymous developer known as Uzbekunknown published dlss-nr-on-intel, a clean-room reimplementation of NVIDIA's DLSS 5 neural pipeline running on Intel Arc Xe2 XMX engines through Vulkan cooperative matrix. The code was written almost entirely by AI agents; on the integrated Arc 140V a single DLSS 5 pass takes about 412 ms at 1080p, capping throughput at roughly 2.4 fps.
- The port avoids NVIDIA's NGX SDK and CUDA, rebuilding the U-Net in Vulkan compute shaders
- Frames are intercepted at vkQueuePresentKHR, so it can hook any Vulkan game
- Intel Xe2 XMX lacks FP8 support, so the port runs FP16 with FP32 accumulation
- On Arc 140V the DLSS 5 pass takes ~412 ms at 1080p; Tekken 7 at 360p hits ~10.5 fps
