Android 17 Prepares Protected NFC Payment Permissions

Android 17 QPR2 Beta 6 (CP41.260831.007) contains two new permissions — NFC Payment Card Emulation and NFC Payment Card Reading — to restrict access to protected payment AIDs. Card emulation registrations and SELECT commands for protected AIDs will be rejected without the permission. The permissions are not yet declared in the platform manifest, so enforcement is inactive.

• Permission strings first appeared in QPR2 Beta 5 and remain in Beta 6
• Card emulation registration with a protected AID is rejected without permission
• Reading a protected AID will throw a SecurityException
• Permissions are granted silently at the system level
