Applied Materials expands Singapore advanced packaging lab with A*STAR

Applied Materials is expanding its advanced packaging joint lab with Singapore's A*STAR, one of its largest R&D investments in the country to date. New collaborations with KLA, GlobalFoundries, STATS ChipPAC and Tacta Systems were also announced, along with the SG Semiconductor national brand.

• The A*STAR partnership dates back to 2011 and is now in its fourth phase
• More than 10 semiconductor tools were developed in Singapore, including Ventura and InVia 2
• KLA is investing $200 million to expand its Singapore site to 420,000 sq ft
• Singapore produces about 10% of global chips and 20% of chipmaking equipment
