Georgia Tech engineers network wearables and implants through the human body
Engineers at Georgia Tech have built a wireless networking system that uses the human body to transmit signals between tiny implantable sensors, actuators and wearable devices. The setup lets one implant sense conditions and trigger a therapeutic response elsewhere, such as releasing medicine or stimulating a nerve.
- Signals between implants and wearables travel through the human body
- The system links tiny implantable sensors and actuators into one network
- One implant can trigger a therapeutic response in another part of the body
- Possible uses include drug release and nerve stimulation
