Huawei shelves global AI chip rollout as China demand outstrips supply

Huawei will keep its Ascend 900-series AI accelerators China-only, saying it lacks capacity to meet domestic demand. The company detailed its Ascend 960/970/980 roadmap and Atlas clusters of up to 15,488 chips delivering up to 120 EFLOPS in FP4.

• Ascend 960DT and 960PR due in 2027 with 2 PFLOPS FP8 and 4–8 PFLOPS FP4
• Atlas clusters of 15,488 chips scale to 30 EFLOPS FP8 and 120 EFLOPS FP4
• Ascend 980 targets 7.2 PFLOPS FP8 and 28 PFLOPS FP4 by 2029
• Raw compute still trails Nvidia H200, B300 and R200
