Korean scientists create film that blocks 99.9999999% of radar waves
Researchers at KIMS and KIST developed a 17.5-micrometer hybrid film of carbon nanotube fibers and MXene using a brick-and-mortar design. It offers about 90 dB of electromagnetic shielding, 1.02 GPa tensile strength and low infrared emissivity, targeting stealth and consumer electronics.
- Film is 17.5 micrometers thick, thinner than a human hair
- About 90 dB shielding blocks over 99.9999999% of radar waves
- Tensile strength of 1.02 GPa matches high-strength structural steel
- Material suppresses thermal radiation and resists heat and moisture
