Singapore researchers weave touchscreen display into clothing
Engineers at the National University of Singapore have woven a 6.6 by 4.3-inch flexible display into a garment using a fiber made of 54 electronic threads. The screen shows photos, plays video at 30 fps and registers touches, surviving 50 wash cycles.
- Display is woven into the forearm sleeve and supports 8-bit color
- More than 5,000 chips and 20,000 electrical components were integrated
- Screen survived 50 wash cycles and 1,000 bends
- Video runs at 30 fps without sound, dropping to 25 fps with audio
