Ghostty 1.4 is faster and leaner, drops Ubuntu 24.04 LTS support

Ghostty 1.4, the GPU-accelerated terminal emulator from HashiCorp co-founder Mitchell Hashimoto, ships a rebuilt triple-buffered renderer, scrollback compression that saves 70–90% memory and full Kitty graphics protocol support. Native builds no longer run on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS because the release requires GTK 4.18 and libadwaita 1.7.

• Idle scrollback compression saves 70–90% memory; default limit rises from 10MB to 50MB
• Release includes over 170 contributors and 2,800+ commits
• Ten security issues fixed, including a zsh escape-sequence clipboard swap
• Windows GUI support dropped from roadmap in favor of libghostty
