Korean kit turns car grilles and brakes into roadside air scrubbers
South Korea's KIMM fitted a Kia Carnival and Hyundai Sonata with an electrostatic grille that removes 95% of PM2.5 and 99% of coarser particles, plus a brake-dust collector capturing 22.2 mg per km. Fuel efficiency changes by no more than 1%, and the grille processes about 1,800 cubic meters of air per hour.
- Grille removes 95% of PM2.5 and 99% of 2.5–10 μm particles at 30 and 50 km/h
- Brake-dust collector captures 22.2 mg/km, with an average rate of about 61%
- Fuel efficiency changes by no more than 1%; airflow reaches 1,800 m³ per hour
- Euro 7 caps brake dust from November 29: 7 mg/km for combustion cars, 3 mg/km for EVs
