Proxima Fusion signs two Japanese deals to build its fusion supply chain

Munich-based Proxima Fusion signed memorandums of understanding with Fujikura and Kyoto Fusioneering in Tokyo during German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's visit to Japan. Fujikura will study building an HTS tape factory in Lower Saxony, while Kyoto Fusioneering will work on gyrotrons and the fusion fuel cycle. Proxima expects to need about 20,000 km of tape for its Alpha test machine in the early 2030s and around 40,000 km per commercial Stellaris plant.
