Amutable Foundations: a Linux system with no SSH or package manager
Amutable opened signups for the private preview of Amutable Foundations, a Linux system where each machine sends a signed report of its software and configuration backed by a hardware root of trust. There is no package manager, SSH or interactive shell: a machine can only be changed by giving it a new signed image.
- Each machine verifies firmware, boot loader, kernel and OS, recording measurements in a TPM
- Changes come only as signed images built from version-controlled state
- Machines that diverge from declared state are denied secrets and kept out of the cluster
- Company cites EU Cyber Resilience Act reporting duties enforced since September 2026
