GICON's 300-meter wind tower meets a 199-meter rival
GICON completed its Schipkau prototype with a 300-meter hub height and a 365-meter upper blade tip, using a lattice structure and telescoping inner tower raised without a conventional crane. Max Bögl, meanwhile, erected a Vestas V172-7.2 MW on a 199-meter hybrid tower. Modeling shows the taller farm yields 11.4% more annual electricity, but the commercial case hinges on repeatable installation.
- Schipkau hub height is 300 m, upper blade tip 365 m
- Max Bögl's serial hybrid tower with Vestas V172-7.2 MW reaches 199 m
- Model: 300-meter farm produces 11.4% more electricity annually
- Prototype required thousands of components and extensive work at height
