Germany's telescoping wind turbine becomes world's tallest at 365 m
Gicon built a 365-m wind turbine in Schipkau for Germany's SPRIND agency, about 25 m taller than Dongfang Electric's prototype in China. The 3.8-MW pilot uses a telescoping inner tower and lattice support, with inauguration planned for November 19.
- Turbine stands 365 m tall with hub raised to 300 m
- Pilot rated at 3.8 MW versus 26 MW for China's prototype
- Telescoping inner tower was lifted into place on September 29
- Gicon sees potential for up to 4,000 high-altitude towers at existing wind farms
