DuckDB 2.0.0 LTS brings Quack protocol, async I/O and VARIANT type

DuckDB 2.0.0 LTS, codenamed Cinnamon Teal, shipped on 21 October 2026 with nearly 20,000 commits since 1.5. It adds the Quack protocol, asynchronous I/O for Parquet, CSV and S3, a first-class VARIANT type, agent mode, triggers and an extensible SQL parser. Support runs until at least October 2027.

• Files created by 2.0 cannot be opened by pre-2.0 releases
• 1.4 support ends 17 November 2026, 1.5 extended to March 2027
